Los Angeles Destination - Travel Town

Preschoolers love watching, playing with and reading about train engines, cabooses and cars. Take an afternoon to get some real "hands on" learning at Travel Town. Your preschooler will be able to see all the things they love most about trains up close and personal.

Preschoolers and adult train enthusiasts will appreciate the beauty of the vintage train engines. The preschoolers can board the trains, sit in the seats and pretend they are the engineer. In addition to having free reign among the trains, preschoolers will love the opportunity for imaginary play.

Special Days for Preschoolers at Travel Town. Thomas the Tank Engine play days are offered on the first Sunday of the month.

What Parents Will Enjoy About Travel Town

Travel Town affords an indoor museum, gift shop, plentiful grassy areas, picnic facilities, complimentary docent-led tours and clean restrooms. The museum has on display fire coaches from days long past. It also has scale models of railroad lines from in and around the Los Angeles area. The gift shop offers a vast array of train lovers' items to entice the preschool crowd. 

Picnicing/Dining at Travel Town. Travel Town has plenty of shade and grassy areas if you want to picnic on the ground. If you would rather dine at a table you will find them scattered throughout the park with the majority of them located between the gift shop and the restrooms.

Tours of Travel Town. The docent-led tours are a complimentary service offered by the park. Reservations for the docent service are recommended.

Parking at Travel Town. There is plenty of parking adjacent to Travel Town.

What You Don't Want to Miss

You will find a 400-piece Thomas the Tank Engine train set outside of the gift shop. Participation is free, but imaginations are a must! When the day is done preschoolers will enjoy a ride around the park on the miniature train.

General Information

Cost of the train ride: $2.00 for adults and children. Senior discount allows grandparents to ride for $1.50.

Hours of operation: Monday-Friday 10:00am - 4:00pm and weekends from 10:00am - 5:00pm.

Location: 5200 Zoo Drive in Los Angeles and situated on the northwest corner of Griffith Park Travel Town is available for birthday celebrations and meetings, reservations are required.
